DATA PROTECTION (GDPR)

Background

On the 25th May 2018 the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was introduced.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaced the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC and was designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy.

BREXIT - 2020

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been retained in UK law and will continue to be read alongside the Data Protection Act 2018, with technical amendments to ensure it can function in UK law. The Information Commissioner remains the UK’s independent supervisory authority on data protection. The UK remains committed to high data protection standards.

The Brexit transition period ended on 31 December 2020. UK organisations that process personal data must now comply with:

The DPA (Data Protection Act) 2018 and UK GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) if they process only domestic personal data.
The DPA 2018 and UK GDPR, and the EU GDPR if they process domestic personal data and offer goods and services to, or monitor the behaviour of, EU residents.

How this relates to schools

At Moulsham Junior School we take Data Protection very seriously and recognise that pupils, parents, staff and any other parties who share with us their data need to feel confident that their details are safe and will not be compromised whilst held at school.

Consequently, school staff and Governors have re-produced a number of privacy notices, policies and related documents that will support us all in, a) managing data in a more transparent and compliant manner, and b) giving individuals access to more information about their data, how/where it is stored, what we do with it and when it will be disposed of.
